The British Ahwazi Friendship Society campaigns on behalf of the Ahwazi Arabs, an indigenous ethnic group persecuted by successive Iranian governments. Around four million Ahwazi Arabs live in Khuzestan, which was known as the autonomous province of Arabistan until 1925, when the Sheikh of Mohammareh was deposed and direct rule was imposed from Tehran.
Ethnic Ahwazi Arabs are demanding collective rights, including the redistribution of oil revenues, land ownership, equal labour rights and self-determination.
